Several of us have been wondering what the ultimate electric Porsche would look like. To give you an idea of what is available, the Porsche Taycan configurator has revealed interesting options. Like we mentioned yesterday, the Taycan has been introduced in 2 trim levels: Turbo and Turbo S. It might seem silly to slap a turbo badge on an electric car, but their performance is what you would expect from a traditional Porsche Turbo or Turbo S model. We chose the Turbo S because it has more power and more possibilities for customization. Before we dig into the details, the Taycan Turbo S arrives with 750 horsepower (in overboost mode) and 774 lb-ft of torque. Without any options, it carries an MSRP of $185,000. Not bad for 300-mile range and this level of power. So we decided to trick it out in duPont REGISTRY style: All the way! A few days ago, a purpose-built Bugatti Chiron was clocked at 304 mph. Only one track in Europe could be trusted with such a test, so it was performed at Ehra-Lessien, a few miles north of Wolfsburg, Germany. Because cars are only allowed to run counter-clockwise, the asphalt has developed a grain in that direction. This prevented a test in the other direction, which is needed for a world record. That’s why CEO Stephan Winkelmann admits Nevada would have been faster. Aside from Area 51, Nevada has some seriously fast machines. Twice a year, the Silver State Classic is an unlimited run across 90 miles of highway 318. It is also where the current world record holder reached 284.55 mph. That Koenigsegg Agera RS was a production car with safety and telemetry installed. The Bugatti used to reach 304 mph has nothing in common with a production Chiron. The body was outsourced to Dallara, who exaggerated it to be longer and wider. See the Bugatti Chiron Break 300 mph Barrier After going … [Read more...] about Bugatti Admits Nevada Would’ve Been Faster
Presented by Wide Open Baja If you have ever dreamed of blasting across the desert, Wide Open Baja is unlike anything you have experienced. Rob Ward and his team of off-road instructors have been involved in our events for years, so he decided to pull back the curtain on their most exclusive vacation package and share it with some of our team members. Our 3-day excursion was all-inclusive. We started with being transported in a new Ford Raptor that took from the San Diego Airport across the border. Once inside the hacienda, we were overwhelmed with the history on the walls. Parnelli Jones, Mickey Thompson, Ivan Stewart and many others have left their mark in the dining room. From Paul Newman to Patrick Dempsey, the walls of Horsepower … [Read more...] about Wide Open Baja: Your Adventure Awaits
