During Microsoft's consumer-focused Windows 10 press conference today, the company created something that many of us have been waiting for, a Microsoft alternative to Internet Explorer—Meet (codename) Spartan. Microsoft Joe Belfiore gave us a quick tour of the new browser. One of the coolest modes was note-taking mode, which sounds exactly what you'd think. You can draw directly on the webpage, which captures the images, and lets you collaborate with others by adding comments and notations. All these webpage-based collaborations will be automatically synced to OneDrive. Advertisement The next mode is specifically for reading. You can rearrange web views to make them easier to read however you'd like. You can also curate a "Reading List" that will sync across phones and tablets. Think of all the "will read later" services out there, such as Instapaper (etc.), but baked right into the browser. Pretty neat! But that's not the only baked in feature. Cortana will also be part of … [Read more...] about Microsoft’s Spartan Browser Is Here To Save You From Internet Explorer
In a bid to entice you to start using Opera, the latest version of the browser is focused on offering lots of privacy while promising to speed up your browsing experience. The tracker blocker (using the EasyPrivacy Tracking Protection List) will "guard your privacy" by not allowing any personal data to be collected or tracked through a range of common tracking techniques including "analytic scripts" and "tracking pixels." Cryptomining scripts … [Read more...] about Latest Opera Browser Promises More Privacy, Faster Page Loads

Whereas Project Spartan was a fun nod to Master Chief from the Halo series—much like Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant—Microsoft Edge sounds like something an angsty teenager would think up. There is some reasoning behind this name change at least, as Belfiore describes: The name refers to the idea of being on the edge of consuming and creating. It refers to the developer notion of being closer to the … [Read more...] about Microsoft Edge Is the Official Name of the IE-Slaying Spartan Browser
