These translations are based on algorithms that know very little about grammar or context. Apple sells 10 million iPhones during first weekend without its largest market
Apple announced this morning they sold more than 10 million iPhones over the weekend, eclipsing the previous record of nine million with the launch of last year’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. The figure is no doubt impressive but there’s more here than first meets the eye. In a press release on the matter, Apple CEO Tim Cook said sales for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded their expectations for launch weekend and they couldn’t be happier. He added that they could have sold more iPhones had inventory held up and they are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launched on September 19 in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. Notably absent from this list is China, considered by some as Apple’s largest market. The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c simultaneously launched in China but not this time around. As The Wall Street Journal notes, Chinese state … [Read more...] about Apple sells 10 million iPhones during first weekend without its largest market
Tim Cook Says Trade Wars Won’t Make Apple’s iPhones More Expensive
Apple CEO Tim Cook has said he is optimistic that Donald Trump's rhetoric on tougher trade regulations won't make his company's flagship iPhone smartphone more expensive. Fears emerged earlier this year that fresh taxes imposed on China could have a knock-on effect on U.S. technology companies. It was estimated at the time, in March, that the additional tariff of 25 percent on around $50 billion of Chinese imports could boost the price of an iPhone X from $1,000 to around $1,250. Other products, including the MacBook, would also be impacted, experts said. But in an interview with CNN this week Cook didn't predict change. "I am very optimistic because no one will win from that [a trade war]," he noted. "It will be a lose-lose. I think that when the facts are so clear both parties will see that and be able to work things out. I don't think that iPhone will get a tariff on it, is my belief based on what I have been told and what I see. I just don't see that." Trump has been outspoken … [Read more...] about Tim Cook Says Trade Wars Won’t Make Apple’s iPhones More Expensive

Fake fingerprint fools iPhone 6 Touch ID
Apple's latest iPhones are vulnerable to the same fingerprint forging attack as the older iPhone 5S, allowing access to the phone via a fingerprint fabricated with some specialized knowledge and materials costing less than a thousand dollars, according to a researcher who reproduced the attack against the latest iPhones. Mark Rogers, principal security researcher for mobile security firm Lookout, used techniques common to law enforcement investigators and prototypers to first lift latent prints from the device and then create a mold from a custom circuit-board kit. Then, using glue, he made a thin rubber print that he placed over his thumb, fooling the Touch ID sensor on the latest iPhones. While his experiments suggested that Apple improved the sensor on the latest iPhones—it rejected slightly fewer legitimate prints and slightly more fake prints—Rogers found that the technique still works on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. "The process with both of them is exactly the … [Read more...] about Fake fingerprint fools iPhone 6 Touch ID
