Lagonda has played different roles within Aston Martin over the decades, ever since the once-standalone British marque was folded into its parent company. Half a century ago, Lagonda was an occasional, low-volume sedan sub-brand within Aston Martin, one which David Brown had a hard time convincing even his personal friends to buy. The Lagonda that we remember best is the angular William Towns sedan of the 1970s, with bodywork sharp enough to give you a paper cut, and with "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"-style controls that rarely worked. Lagonda's most recent reappearance was in the form ofa very long and and very expensive sedan called the Taraf that gave a nod to the now-classic William Towns design. Thanks to increased interest in electric cars, Lagonda may finally prove to be more than just an occasional four-door flagship with a polarizing design. At the Geneva auto show, Aston Martin took the wraps off the Lagonda Vision Concept, previewing an electric luxury car range that could … [Read more...] about Aston Martin Lagonda sub-brand plans to electrify luxury

Aston Martin Lagonda One sure way to load your inbox with nasty emails is to publish a list of ugly cars. I caught the most flack for selecting the Toyota Celica as one of five nasty-looking rides for my 1995-2004 list. Please be sure to check that out. Here, I step backwards a decade to the era of sharply creased edges and faux aerodynamics. Normally, I wouldn’t drag exotic or limited-production vehicles into something like this, but there’s one pricey ride from the early to mid-’80s that really stands out as aesthetically challenged. Note: I am aware that some of these rides don’t fit all that neatly into the 1985-1994 envelope, yet, when I look back, that’s when I best picture them. Got your own list of eyesores from this era? Let’s hear ’em. 5 Ugly Vehicles, Part 1: 1995-2004 Aston Martin Lagonda Sometimes I love this car; usually, though, I just hate it. Credit Aston Martin for taking a chance on something daring. Auction prices would … [Read more...] about Ugly Vehicles, Part 2: 1985-1994
Geneva promises to be a busy show this year, and if there is a common theme for 2019, it's electric cars. A number of automakers will unveil EV concepts here this year, though there will be no shortage of (overpowered) gasoline-engined models either. Even so, a number of European automakers like Volvo, Land Rover and Jaguar will sit this one out, as will Ford. Here's what's coming to Geneva in just a couple of weeks. 2020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 12020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 22020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 32020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 42020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 52020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 62020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 72020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 82020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 92020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 102020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 112020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 122020 BMW 7-Series: Refreshed luxury Photo 132020 BMW … [Read more...] about 2019 Geneva motor show preview: Here’s what’s coming this March
The Geneva Motor Show is a big deal. It's the first major European show on the calendar each year, so we always expect to see a healthy turnout of new and interesting production cars and concepts. That said, 2018 is shaping up to be a banner year, even by Geneva standards. We've got plenty of boots on the ground in Switzerland to cover all of the hot Geneva news, and we'll be updating this page regularly.Aston Martin Now playing: Watch this: Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro is terrifyingly quick 2:16 The folks at Aston Martin surprised us all and debuted the Valkyrie AMR Pro, an ultra-hot, track-only version of the already monkeyballs-crazytown-bananapants Valkyrie hypercar. The AMR Pro has a power-to-weight ratio of better than 1:1, is limited to just 25 cars, and the example on the show floor is a retina-searing yellow green color. We love everything about it except that all 25 have been sold. Aston Martin's Lagonda Vision Concept is an autonomous yacht on wheels 66 … [Read more...] about 2018 Geneva Motor Show: What did we see, what did we love?
Nice Price Or Crack Pipe Is this used car a good deal? You decide! If your New Year’s resolutions include treating yourself to the swank life then have a look at our first Nice Price or Crack Pipe contender of 2019, an Aston Martin Rapide. Will its price however, demand too much bread to join that upper crust? Man, 2018 is so last year. I mean, do you even remember what went on back then? I sure don’t. Fortunately, the Internet is a repository of all our hopes and dreams, successes and narrow misses, and of course, abject failures. The latter was most certainly represented by Monday’s custom 2017 Infiniti QX70 ‘Renegade Edition’ which, asking a not insubstantial $49,500 for its bad self, took home a staggering 91 percent Crack Pipe loss. That big bomb was pretty much reflective of 2018 in general. Let’s hope 2019 turns out to be better, and what better way down that path than in one of the sexiest four door sedans known to man. Now, Aston Martin … [Read more...] about Could a $59,900 Price Have You Rushing to Buy This 2010 Aston Martin Rapide?
