The Top 5 best-selling brands remain unchanged on 2014 with Volkswagen (+32%) still master in command ahead of Toyota (+28%), Ford (+27%), Hyundai (+41%) and Nissan (+59%). Low-cost brand Dacia continues to impress: up another 40% for only its third year in market to hit 3% market share and 3.784 sales at #12. The first striking observation when looking at this year’s models ranking is the Wuling Hongguang now totalling 483,159 units after just 8 months – more than double its result from a year ago after a sales re-adjustment. But this year is off to a wobbly start, with new car sales down a steep -12.9% to just 32.303, a bad presage for the annual score as January traditionally accounts for 30% of annual sales in the country. Hyundai (-3.3%) manages the smallest decline in the Top 5 and takes the brands lead as a result with 11.8% share vs. 9.3% in FY2018, distancing 2018 leader Volkswagen (-10.3%), Ford (-15.7%), Toyota (-35.9%) and Nissan (-8.3%).
