What is Spidercam? Controversial Camera used again for Amazon Prime Premier League matches this week
SPIDERCAM caused a stir when it was in the Premier League a couple of seasons ago, and now it returns! And the birds-eye view technology is back on Amazon Prime's coverage of Premier League football this week. What is Spidercam and how does it work? Spidercam uses a state-of-the-art camera suspended from four wires - one in each corner of the ground - to follow the action. It can pan 360 degrees while keeping level and also has a zoom function and image stabilisers. An operator controls the camera pitchside to provide birds-eye footage of the action. It is apparently especially useful for pundits doing tactical analysis at half-time and full-time.Which football events have used Spidercam in the past? Spidercam made its World Cup debut in South Africa and was again included at Brazil 2014. Fifa first allowed its use in Asian … [Read more...] about What is Spidercam? The Premier League’s next chief must heed the lessons of Amazon Prime protest
One of the triumphs that earned Richard Scudamore the devotion of the Premier League’s 20 shareholders was the former chief executive’s strategy for increasing broadcast revenues in China which was not as simple as with other nations that had succumbed to the global cult of the EPL. Scudamore persuaded the clubs at the time that they were better served accepting a smaller deal with terrestrial television in China and build audience loyalty before switching to a more lucratively structured arrangement where some was made available to pay-TV. It worked in the long-term with the Premier League converting a greater share of that market to the English game and in the following years that early loss-leader... … [Read more...] about The Premier League’s next chief must heed the lessons of Amazon Prime protest
