How to Use Pivot Tables to Analyze Excel Data

Pivot Tables are both incredibly simple and increasingly complex as you learn to master them. They’re great at sorting data and making it easier to understand, and even a complete Excel novice can find value in using them. We’ll walk you through getting started with Pivot Tables in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. First, we’ll label the top row so that we can better organize our data once we apply the PivotTables in a later step. Before we continue, this is a good opportunity to get rid of any blank rows in your workbook. PivotTables work with blank cells, but they can’t quite understand how to proceed with a blank row. To delete, just highlight the row, right-click, choose “Delete,” then “Shift cells up” to combine the two sections. Click inside any cell in the data set. On the “Insert” tab, click the “PivotTable” button. When the dialogue box appears, click “OK.” You can modify the settings within the Create PivotTable dialogue, but it’s usually unnecessary. … [Read more...] about How to Use Pivot Tables to Analyze Excel Data

How to Find and Join Telegram Channels

As far as messaging apps go , Telegram is quite unique ( especially compared to Signal ). You get access to third-party clients, bots, drop-in audio chats, and more. Telegram’s public broadcasting channels are one such feature. Here’s how to find and join Telegram channels. What Are Telegram Channels? Telegram channels are different from Telegram groups, though they do appear to be similar. For instance, Telegram groups can have up to 200,000 users, and they can be open to the public. Channels, on the other hand, are specifically designed for broadcasting messages to a large audience. Unlike groups, they are not designed for conversations. You can have an unlimited number of subscribers to a public or private channel. Public channels get their own “www.t.me/username” URL. Only the channel owner or the admin can post to the channel, each message has a view count and details of who shared the message, and channels can include rich media like video, audio, polls, and … [Read more...] about How to Find and Join Telegram Channels

Did You Know? Windows 10 PCs Have “Game Mode” on by Default

All Windows 10 PCs have “Game Mode” enabled by default. Microsoft once touted this feature, but it’s now faded into the background. Bizarrely, some people report that disabling Game Mode boosts the performance of certain PC games! What Does “Game Mode” Do on Windows 10? First introduced in Windows 10’s Creators Update , which was released back in April 2017, “ Game Mode ” promises to boost the performance of many PC games. Here’s the official description: Microsoft says that Game Mode “helps achieve a more stable frame rate depending on the specific game and system.” Technically, it works by detecting games and giving them priority access to your computer’s resources. The game you’re focused on playing gets more CPU and GPU resources, while other applications and background processes get fewer resources. This only works if Windows 10 detects that you’re playing a game. Microsoft’s limited explanation of Game Mode also says that, in Game Mode, Windows Update won’t … [Read more...] about Did You Know? Windows 10 PCs Have “Game Mode” on by Default

How to Configure Microsoft Teams Notifications

Microsoft Teams does a great job of informing you about new messages and other activity, but it can get a bit overwhelming if you’re in lots of teams. Here’s how to turn off or customize Microsoft Teams notification. Teams will provide notifications about chats, meetings, direct messages, mentions, other people’s status, and even when someone you know joins your team. It will do this by adding a number to the Teams icon on the taskbar, making that same icon flash, playing a noise, and popping up a banner notification in the bottom-left corner of your screen. And if you miss any of that, it will send you a missed activity email. If you work somewhere that uses Microsoft Teams a lot, this can become a barrage of alerts that constantly interrupt you with information that you don’t need to know. Getting pulled out of your focused zone by an alert telling you that Geoff from Accounts has just come online is really not helpful or productive. You should decide what’s worthy of … [Read more...] about How to Configure Microsoft Teams Notifications
