While Amazon does not always pay local-level taxes—because many localities are not properly equipped to demand or collect them—nor does it collect state sales tax on items sold through its platform by third-party vendors in most states, it is likely paying tens of millions of dollars in taxes to state and local governments each year. In total, according to its Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Amazon paid $412 million in taxes in 2016 and, according to CNBC, has a provisional tax expense of around $200 million last year. … [Read more...] about Trump’s Claim That Amazon Pays ‘Little or No’ State Taxes Is Utter Nonsense

Some highlights include Tesla and SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk, Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook and Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella. This whole meeting could be pretty awkward, especially considering how much Trump shit talked the tech industry in general during the campaign. … [Read more...] about Tech Gods Arrive to Kneel at Trump’s Throne
Reporting has uncovered a number of issues within Amazon’s vast logistics network. Amazon’s return grift has been known for years, both within hacking circles and among sellers who have been scammed. Buyers risk getting banned for too many missing or defective item claims, but the Finans made “hundreds of false online identities” to avoid detection, and were finally caught not by Amazon but by the Indiana State Police and the IRS. … [Read more...] about Couple Grifts Amazon Out of $1.2 Million in Electronics
According to the DOL report, other studies, and surveys of America’s failed experiments with retraining, there are a lot of reasons that reskilling programs flounder. Older workers are reluctant to reenter the classroom environment. Employees are wary of investing time, energy, and resources on retraining if there isn’t a guarantee that a job will be waiting for them when they’re done. Oooh! The set is so good! It’s a cross-section of a human scale dollhouse with monochromatic rooms like the Madonna Inn until you look too closely and it gets a little too Pier 1. Real heads know: it’s like her Instagram stories come to life. You know when she gets in that pinning mood and she lets it rip on the gram like it’s Tumblr in 2013? Her story notches get narrow as a pixel. So hyper. I love her for that. Go off, as they say. Is perhaps Kacey too cool of a girl to have the charisma volts needed to power this thing? It seems to be the case. Whatever. I feel like she’s the hot girl in high school who got cast in the recital but she can’t break her own real-life character to generate the kind of cornball fuel (thespian ethanol, if I may?) that this kind of project runs on. This functions better as a festive music video channel than it does as a show, tee-bee-achj. Whoa whoa whoa, what is this—the Kacey MusLegs ChrisGams Special? Have … [Read more...] about An Energetic Journey Through Kacey Musgraves’s Magical Amazon Christmas Special
