Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne set star-studded animated series cast

May 23, 2022 by www.avclub.com Leave a Comment

Former roomies Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne have scored a two-season order for their animated comedy on Prime Video, and they’ve got an all-star cast on board. Produced by Rudolph and Lyonne’s production company Animal Pictures , The Hospital features the talents of Keke Palmer, Greta Lee, Kieran Culkin, and Sam Smith (yes, that Sam Smith ). According to Variety , The Hospital follows “best friends and intergalactically renowned surgeons” Sleech (Lee) and Klack (Palmer) whose caseload includes “anxiety-eating parasites, illegal time loops, Klak is “a brilliant, multi-eyed surgeon who spends her down time feeding her sentient plants, obsessively reviewing past failures, and watching hit show My Lover, My Clone .” Her bestie Dr. Sleech is “a reckless, cocky surgeon whose main saving graces are her genius, her well-oiled lizard tail, and her unconditional love for her best friend Dr. Klak.” Advertisement Rudolph and Lyonne … [Read more...] about Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne set star-studded animated series cast

Samsung’s Pokémon-themed Galaxy Z Flip 3 is like a real life Pokédex

April 19, 2022 by gizmodo.com Leave a Comment

Move over, Thom Browne, and your stuffy leather trimmings! Samsung has a better collaboration in the wings. The Pokémon Edition of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is official, and it comes with a host of accessories that transform the folding phone into a bonafide Pokédex for the real world. Where was this collaboration when the Z Flip 3 launched last summer? It’s so cute, and perfect for Pokémon Go as it somehow continues to maintain relevance 6 years after launch. The bundle includes the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in a special box with a heaping of Pokémon -themed accessories. If the default Pikachu isn’t your starter, there’s a picture case with swappable cards. (Since we’re sharing, I’m more of a Squirtle Sun with a Bulbasaur Rising.) There’s also a clear cover set, a pouch that looks like a Pokédex with a lanyard strap, a Pikachu tail keychain, and a PokéBall stand. As for the Z Flip 3 itself, it comes preloaded with Pokémon ringtones, themes, and wallpapers. (I’m curious … [Read more...] about Samsung’s Pokémon-themed Galaxy Z Flip 3 is like a real life Pokédex

Stardust review: The Bowie biopic without any Bowie songs is velvet garbage

November 24, 2020 by www.avclub.com Leave a Comment

Note: The writer of this review watched Stardust on a digital screener from home. Before making the decision to see it—or any other film—in a movie theater, please consider the health risks involved. Here’s an interview on the matter with scientific experts. In the early part of his career, David Bowie was at different times a novelty singer, a mod, and a fey, art-schooled folkie. When he finally found himself, it was not by rejecting the phoniness of the record industry—as many stars would claim to do throughout the history of rock. Instead, he simply began writing his own roles: androgynous messiah, drug-addled rock voluptuary, purveyor of imitation soul. Claiming to be bisexual or fascist (despite negligible proof of the former and a lifetime of evidence against the latter) was part of the act. More than anyone before or since, he turned every part of the music business, from manufactured personae to overblown concert tours, into art, all while producing … [Read more...] about Stardust review: The Bowie biopic without any Bowie songs is velvet garbage

This Hand-Sculpted Pikachu Is the Wireless iPhone Charger of My Dreams

May 10, 2022 by gizmodo.com Leave a Comment

Wireless charging’s best feature is simply being a more convenient way to power up devices without having to struggle to find and plug in a cable, right? Nendo Yoshirin has shown us that far more creative and adorable. Even the most casual of Pokémon fans have at one time wondered if befriending (or entrapping, it’s a matter of perspective) a Pikachu would be the solution to all of their charging woes. Could you toss the Pokémon in your backpack with all of your devices and ten minutes later open it to find everything completely charged? It’s an experiment none of us will ever have a chance to try in real life—which is probably for the best—but this fan- hands-down the next best thing . There are seemingly more Pikachu toys and collectibles than there are stars in the night sky, and, not surprisingly, someone has already thought of turning the electric type pocket monster into a wireless charger before. Their approach, having users just plop a … [Read more...] about This Hand-Sculpted Pikachu Is the Wireless iPhone Charger of My Dreams

The Bob’s Burgers Movie serves Belcher charm in an overdone story

May 23, 2022 by www.avclub.com Leave a Comment

When the “Moody Foodie” arrives in Bob’s Burgers season two, Bob way overthinks it. The mustachioed cook and father of three is desperate for the hotshot writer to like his food after the critic’s snide prose has already condemned three other restaurants in town. But between the kids’ antics and Linda being, well, Linda, Bob can’t quite focus when the critic finally comes. So, he gets stressed out behind the grill, messes up the order, and the Moody Foodie writes a bad review. “Overdone and dry,” the critic digs–a metaphoric knife straight to the heart of TV’s favorite third-generation restaurateur. Those same words could describe the plot of The Bob’s Burgers Movie , an otherwise cute outing that, for some reason, sees the Belchers reusing old plot points like stale hamburger buns. But it’s the rest of the “Moody Foodie” episode—in which Bob learns the importance of ignoring haters and just doing what he loves—that feels more relevant when reviewing a … [Read more...] about The Bob’s Burgers Movie serves Belcher charm in an overdone story

Snap’s CEO Finally Calls The Metaverse What It Is

April 29, 2022 by gizmodo.com Leave a Comment

Luxury brands , investment bankers , and even the goddamn military might be buying big into the idea of a metaverse, but thankfully, there’s one prominent CEO who’s finally calling it out for being as wishy-washy and we all know it to be. In an interview with The Guardian on Thursday, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said that his company refused to use the word in the company’s offices, because it’s “ambiguous and hypothetical,” as opposed to the real world, which is, well, real. “Just ask a room of people how to define it, and everyone’s definition is totally different,” Spiegel said about the term. In that respect, he’s totally right. Though it was first coined by sci-fi author Neal Stephenson way back in 1992 , Mark Zuckerberg has since fully co-opted the phrase when he rebranded Facebook to “Meta” back in October of last year. Advertisement For Facebook, the phrase “metaverse” seems to be pretty synonymous with the virtual worlds … [Read more...] about Snap’s CEO Finally Calls The Metaverse What It Is
