Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has announced a major feature in the Google Chrome browser. With the rise in phishing attacks, Google has announced a new safety feature in Chrome that will warn users if their login credentials were stolen after they had entered them on a website that they are browsing using the Chrome browser. "To help keep you safe online, @googlechrome will now warn if your username & password have been compromised when you type them into a website. We’re also enhancing phishing protections to be real-time on desktop to alert you when visiting malicious sites," tweeted Pichai. The new security feature was first introduced in February this year with a tool called Password Checkup as an optional Google Chrome extension. Now, Google has simply made this extension mainstream. In a thumbs up to the Indian government’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) scheme, Google has written to the US Federal Reserve Board detailing the successful example of UPI-based digital payment in India in order to build “FedNow” -- a new interbank real-time gross settlement service (RTGS) for faster digital payments in the US.In a letter written by Mark Isakowitz, Vice President, Government Affairs and Public Policy, US and Canada, Google, the company said it worked closely with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the payment regulator government by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), to build ‘Google Pay’ for the Indian market. Facebook-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp last week started rolling out UPI-based payment feature to select users in India. While the feature hasn’t been officially rolled out but a lot of WhatsApp users on iOS and Android have already received the feature. Analysts believe WhatsApp’s UPI-based payment feature will be a major boost to the digital payment landscape in India. Also, the feature will help the government backed UPI-platform see a wider adoption in the country, thanks to WhatsApp’s massive userbase. A user of Google’s Opinion Rewards has been asked questions pertaining to a ‘tasty food with the letter N,’ according to a report by Android Police. Google Opinion Rewards is a programme that provides users with Play Store credits for answering consumer surveys.
