NFL Schedule Leaks was just another troll job

May 13, 2022 by deadspin.com Leave a Comment

Legends aren’t born, they’re made. The Twitter account @NFLGameLeaks is no different. NFL Schedule Leaks published its first tweet This was a lie. There was no secret access to a previously released schedule, no leak with any factual information whatsoever. But who could have known? The account quickly amassed 10,000 followers over the next three days, tweeting out completely fabricated matchups. Blogs, sportswriters, and message boards were eating it up, retweeting and reporting apparently leaked game schedules based on the Game Leaks Twitter account. Advertisement And the person behind it all was literally just making it up — which they revealed yesterday and promptly lost about 20 percent of their followers. Have you heard the NFL schedules are out?

The NFL schedule release is the public-relations juggernaut that somehow is designed to be grand yet always comes off as vanilla. Leaks, intentional or not, happened throughout Thursday as the puzzle of the 18-week regular-season extravaganza came into focus. It’s a forced event on the league calendar that somehow has high points, even with the longest offseason in American sports. All 32 teams’ opponents were known well in advance with the 17-game formula: six divisional games, another six against fellow conference teams based on record and five NFC vs. AFC showdowns. It was up to each team how they unveiled their slate of games and some took the opportunity to create works of art, whether it was comedic, inventive or just outright amazing. Here are the schedule-release videos that stood out from the rest. … [Read more...] about Have you heard the NFL schedules are out?

The Saints have a chance to do something no NFL team has ever done

The New Orleans Saints are looking to do some damage next season. Will they overtake the Buccaneers for top dog in the NFC South? Probably not. Will they compete? Probably. They will be a competent team with the talent to win several games, and with the NFL schedule officially unveiled, some people have realized that the Saints have an opportunity to do something no team has ever done before in the history of the NFL… beat all five bird teams in a single season. The Saints will play the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 and Week 15. They will play the Seattle Seahawks at home in Week 5. They face the Arizona Cardinals two weeks later for Thursday Night Football. They get the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9, and they get the Philadelphia Eagles on New Year’s Day Week 17. That’s every bird team in the NFL and surprisingly enough, no team has ever beaten all five in the same season. There are some caveats that prevent certain teams from running this gauntlet. For example, since four of … [Read more...] about The Saints have a chance to do something no NFL team has ever done

Pick a sport, any sport, and Danny Woodhead will beat you at it

I find it equal parts awe-inspiring and maddening when an athlete can play two sports let alone pick one up and, in a relatively short period of time, become better at it than a lot of people who do it for a living. Former NFL running back Danny Woodhead, 37, Here he is rolling in a long putt (and making fun of his celebration) during his even-par 71 final round of the local qualifier at Omaha Country Club on Wednesday. Advertisement Woodhead, who will need to finish in the top 10 in aggregate points out of all the sectional events to move on, told the Omaha World-Herald that he’s been “grinding” away at the sport since stepping away from football. Frank Gore scores knockout and redemption in pro boxing debut on 39th birthday

May 15, 2022 by deadspin.com Leave a Comment

After rushing for 16,000 yards in the NFL, Frank Gore is entering the next phase of his career as a professional athlete and stepping into the boxing ring. On Saturday, Gore had his first pro boxing match on his 39th birthday against Yaya Olorunsola in Biloxi, Miss. It’s great to see Gore redeem himself in the ring after his exhibition loss to former NBA All-Star guard Deron Williams. Williams took the split decision over Gore, then promptly retired from combat fighting afterward. Gore expressed an interest in a rematch with Williams following the fight, but he’ll not likely receive that opportunity. Advertisement Certain parts of the fight against Williams were embarrassing, so it was good for Gore to have the kind of showing he did against Olorunsola in his first official pro fight. At one point in the second round against Williams, Gore was knocked (more like shoved) through the ropes and honestly looked overwhelmed by the barrage of … [Read more...] about Frank Gore scores knockout and redemption in pro boxing debut on 39th birthday

Shohei Ohtani is amazing and Michele Tafoya tweeted something dumb

May 15, 2022 by deadspin.com Leave a Comment

Michele Tafoya is no stranger to controversy, whether made up out of whole cloth and not really even involving her, or overlooked when she was too cozy in her sideline job with some of the NFL’s worst humans, or completely of her own doing by going on cable news and advocating for white supremacist policies . That last one should probably make Saturday night much less surprising, but no less stupid. Tafoya took the time, with her very own fingers, on an iPad, to tweet perhaps the dumbest complaint about a televised sporting event in the history of complaints about televised sporting events. Advertisement Shohei Ohtani became the third Japanese player to reach 100 career homers in Major League Baseball on Saturday, during the Angels’ 9-1 win over the A”s.
