Ok, now this is neat. You are about to watch a welder perform a piston repair on a massive Lanz Bulldog piston. So a Lanz Bulldog is a tugboat engine? No. A locomotive engine? Negatory. How about a single cylinder, two stroke, hot bulb, 6.3L engine that made 12 horsepower in a little tractor called a Lanz Bulldog. Fear not, though. By the time they were done making the tractors the engine was more than 10L, still single cylinder, and 55hp. Just on looks alone, we’re guessing that this is one of the 10L slugs. Look at the size of that monster! Imagine what it weighs and what the rest of the rotating assembly looks like to hang onto it. The problem here is that there is a big crack or fissure on the dome of the piston and this guy has been tasked with fixing it. With the tools you’d expect he attacks the issue and literally digs deep and then begins the process of fixing it. The repair looks good and we’re guessing that there are many trouble free years of operation for … [Read more...] about Welder Perform A Repair On A Massive Lanz Bulldog Piston

Details are scarce, but at the Geneva show McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt said the company is working on a grand touring car that will “redefine the rules” of grand touring when it is launched. The car’s name and any real details are being released “over the coming months,” McLaren says.Flewitt notes the new car is the fourth model introduced under the company’s Track25 business plan -- the one promising 18 new models and variants -- intended to make McLaren’s entire lineup hybrid by 2025. He says the car combines “competition levels of performance with continent-crossing capability,” wrapped in a lightweight body with a spacious interior for the “comfort and space expected of a grand tourer.”Flewitt goes on to claim the car will “be the lightest of grand tourers and by also having the best power-to-weight ratio, I promise it will be one of the quickest. In addition, it will be the only grand tourer to share … [Read more...] about McLaren is working on a grand touring car

Service journalism is all about writing for other people, but sometimes I use this platform of mine to write 250-to-1,000-word jokes to myself. This is one of those times. I don’t know if you are up on all the dank memes of 2018, but none have tickled my boobs quite like “They Did Surgery on a Grape.” If you don’t get the appeal, I cannot explain it to you, but I wish I could. I have already alienated a few loved ones with my grape surgery enthusiasm. (Though, surprisingly, my father was unfazed, and tried to one up me with tales of PEACH surgery.) Anyway. This cocktail allows me to combine my love of this perfect meme and my love of Concord grape juice, a childhood staple that brings me great comfort and makes my mouth happy. (Warning: Anyone who shit talks Concord grape juice will runs the risk of being blocked.) Rather than try to find a spirit that complements or enhances the juice, I decided to use vodka, a neutral-tasting spirit, because grape juice needs … [Read more...] about Make a ‘Grape Surgery’ Cocktail to Celebrate the Best Meme of 2018
There’s a lot of judgement these days (including from me) about what we should or shouldn’t do. Read these books. Don’t eat Romaine lettuce. Do surgery on a grape. Drink tea. Don’t drink tea. It’s okay, a healthy dose of judgement is fine! But one thing that no one should judge you for is keeping your Christmas tree up as long as you want. Look, the weeks after Christmas are hard enough. The lights come down, you have to go back to work, and you’ve eaten all the clementines that your mom gave you. You have to do a crazy dumb exercise regime that you resolved to do in the new year and then feel guilty about immediately dropping it. You’re entering the months of January, February, and March, objectively the worst quarter of the year. So why not allow yourself to hold onto your beautiful plump tree just a little longer? Putting up a Christmas tree takes a lot of effort. I know, because when I got older my parents got lazy and told me I could only … [Read more...] about It’s Fine to Keep Your Christmas Tree Up a Little While Longer
