Sorry, ladies. This prince is taken. Chris Jackson/Getty Images Most people are familiar with storybook fairy tales. The pretty peasant girl meets and falls in love with a tall, dark and handsome prince. He whisks our heroine away in a horse-drawn carriage to a white castle, and the happy couple lives a blissful life together until the end of time. Sigh. What little girl doesn't dream that one day she'll meet prince charming, have a magical wedding and live happily ever after? The truth is, very few of us have a real chance at joining a royal family -- especially the British royal family. Maybe that's why we're fascinated by the very real, very romantic story unfolding right now in the media. An everyday English girl, Kate Middleton, beat the odds and snagged one of today's most eligible bachelors, Prince William of Wales. How does a commoner become the first woman in more than 350 years to marry prince charming? The pair met by chance as students at a prominent European … [Read more...] about How can I marry prince charming?
Image Gallery: Princess Brides Now, they're a power couple. But once upon a time, Kate and Will were just two nervous college students. See more pictures of princess brides. Indigo/Getty Images When Prince Charles married Lady Diana in 1981, it confirmed what everyone had long suspected: The royal dating pool was as limited as ever. Sure, a young lady from a common background could attract royal attention, but any prospective future queen would have to come from a royal bloodline. A generation later, however, Charles and Diana's eldest son, William, upended that prudish tradition when he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Kate Middleton. Middleton is beautiful, glamorous and not at all royal. Her parents founded a party supply company that has made them millionaires, so she's no stranger to privilege. Yet, detractors still claim that the opulence of the Windsor clan is above her station, and the press hasn't always been kind toward Kate. Criticism of her family's background … [Read more...] about How did Kate Middleton meet Prince William?
As part of her promotion for her bestselling book, Becoming, Michelle Obama is talking to everybody and their mama. Next up: Questlove. The former-and-forever first lady recently chatted with The Roots musical director about everything from Chicago stepping to her White House experiences on his Pandora podcast, Questlove Supreme. And before you ask: yes, they broached that question and the answer is still no, she does not want to be president. In fact, she doesn’t ever want to run for office. Obama specifically reminisced on the musical moments during the eight years she spent at the White House. One of the most memorable moments involved Prince and how difficult it was to book him to perform at the presidential palace. Don’t fret, it wasn’t about Prince being a diva (though he had every right to be), but more so about respecting his religion. The late music icon was a practicing Jehovah’s Witness. “We went back and forth trying to get Prince, because … [Read more...] about It Wasn’t Easy Getting Prince to Perform at the White House, According to Michelle Obama
WASHINGTON—Gently placing his hand on the small of Jared Kushner’s back, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman applied only the gentlest of pressure—no more than a petal falling to the surface of a fountain—and in a voice heavy with anticipation, whispered “You are the jewel of my collection,” thus guiding his frightened new prize toward his harem, royal sources confirmed Thursday. “Once we reach my palace and you pass through the secret doors of scarlet silk, your former life’s tribulations and entanglements shall fade, and you shall live to serve me and me alone—this I swear to you, most precious and delicate Jared, that you will want for nothing,” said bin Salman, collapsing onto a velvet fainting couch as his concubines adorned the White House senior advisor in sheer yet elegant robes and anointed his skin with rosewater. “Do not tremble, my doe; my lamb; my delicate bird. The inevitable is nothing to fear, and … [Read more...] about ‘You Are The Jewel Of My Collection,’ Says Saudi Prince While Guiding Frightened Jared Kushner Toward Harem

Christopher Hogue Thompson, Used Under Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 License In Vanuatu, a South Pacific island nation that's a three-hour or so flight east-northeast of Sydney, Australia, the mystic figure known as John Frum is alive. Well, as much as he's ever been alive. He is not alone. John Frums, some will argue, "live" all over the world. Even in places you wouldn't expect. On the tiny island of Tanna in the Vanuatu archipelago — overall population about 250,000 — a vocal lot of locals still worship John Frum, a mythical personage often depicted as a white American World War II soldier (though he has been described in different ways). Every year on Feb. 15, Frum followers celebrate John Frum Day. They raise the U.S. flag. They march in formation with rifles made of bamboo. Older islanders dress in military outfits, complete with medals. Years ago, they … [Read more...] about On One Pacific Island, a U.S. Soldier and Prince Philip Are Gods
