Jonas Brothers’ Happiness Begins Tour: The 12 Best Moments From Madison Square Garden Night One
"It feels good to be home, thank you for believing in us," Kevin Jonas told the sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden Thursday night (Aug. 29), the first of two Jonas Brothers shows at the famed New York arena. With the show being just across the river from where the siblings grew up in New Jersey, the trio treated it like a homecoming -- and it sure felt like one. There was an undeniable energy in the room both thanks to the brothers and their fans, and it never died throughout the entire 90-minute set. It seems this may be the vibe in every city, considering the tour's title, but the first MSG show was special because it marked the brothers' first stop in their hometown area on the Happiness Begins Tour.Though they were just in town the week prior for the decidedly more intimate Pandora Live concert at Manhattan's Webster Hall, the guys recognized what their MSG show -- JB's first since 2008 -- meant. "We came back here while we were filming Chasing Happiness, … [Read more...] about Jonas Brothers’ Happiness Begins Tour: The 12 Best Moments From Madison Square Garden Night One
Did Woodstock ’99 Kill Rock?
They were dreaming when they broke stuff; forgive them if they went astray. The riotous kids of Woodstock ’99 are all pushing 40 now, and maybe they’ll pour a little extra lighter fluid on the grill this weekend in memoriam (they can come back, baby – rap-rock never forgets). Twenty years ago, perhaps not unreasonably, they tore shit up in the wake of a loud, ugly, pointless gathering of fans and bands and rappers and DJs who had nothing in common with each other and no real reason to gather, except to enrich the organizers and the people selling them bottles of water in 100-degree heat for four bucks each. By the time they got to Woodstock, it sucked. I was there, reporting for the now long-defunct website SonicNet, trudging back from distant stages to the press’ designated plane hangar to file report after report that no one at the festival could actually read, with smartphones still thoroughly nonexistent. Two decades on, my actual memories of the event are … [Read more...] about Did Woodstock ’99 Kill Rock?
Pa., N.J., De. Sierra Club Chapters To Protest Dakota Access Pipeline
Sierra Club chapters from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware along with Delaware Lenape Indian Tribe and other environmental groups and organizations from throughout the region are planning a protest of the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline Wednesday. The groups will organize at 11 a.m. outside the Sunoco Logistics Partners Corporate Headquarters, 3930 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, as the Sierra Club states Sunoco Logistics Partners is "one of the largest owners of the pipeline." "We are united with the Standing Rock Sioux tribe in their fight against this destructive and damaging pipeline cutting through their lands," Director of the New Jersey Sierra Club Jeff Tittel said in a statement. "The Dakota Access pipeline is a threat to the environment, natural lands, wildlife habitat, and their water supply. The construction of this pipeline would do irreparable harm to lands held in Trust for the Standing Rock Sioux. This pipeline is a disaster waiting to happen with a … [Read more...] about Pa., N.J., De. Sierra Club Chapters To Protest Dakota Access Pipeline
The Rock, President Trump watch Jorge Masvidal win big at UFC 244
NEW YORK — President Donald Trump was on his feet for the main event as Jorge Masvidal defeated a bloodied Nate Diaz via TKO before the fourth round at UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wrapped a crudely named, made-for-PPV baddest man in MMA title belt around Masvidal’s waist as nearly 20,000 fans howled in protest of the quick finish. Masvidal dominated the first three rounds and opened cuts above Diaz’s eyes that turned his face into a crimson mask. The assigned doctor for the New York State Athletic Commission stopped the fight just before the fourth round. Both fighters felt the bout should continue. “I was hyped, I was ready to go,” Diaz said. “I come in here to fight. It’s not my fault the doctor stopped it. We’ll run it back, though.” Johnson walked out holding the $50,000 Baddest Mother (Censored!) championship belt to a thunderous ovation as his WWE theme music hit. … [Read more...] about The Rock, President Trump watch Jorge Masvidal win big at UFC 244
