Amazon Exec LOLs at Zuckerberg’s Make-Believe Metaverse
Amazon’s head of devices took a swipe at Meta on Thursday, saying the company is working on enhancing a virtual world that will entice people to neglect the real world. “I want to try to work on technologies that bring people’s heads up, get them to enjoy the real world about them, make the family a more communal experience,” David Limp said during The Wall Street Journal’s Future of Everything Festival. He also noted that if he were to ask the audience what they thought the Metaverse was, he would get “205 different answers.” You don’t kick a horse while it’s down, but people from the tech industry keep dunking on Mark Zuckerberg’s Metaverse as his company bleeds money, and its stock continue to plummet. Advertisement Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, has invested over $10 billion in the elusive Metaverse as its shares fell this year, by 26% the year. No one really understands what the Metaverse is despite Zuckerberg’s best … [Read more...] about Amazon Exec LOLs at Zuckerberg’s Make-Believe Metaverse
Samsung’s Pokémon-themed Galaxy Z Flip 3 is like a real life Pokédex
Move over, Thom Browne, and your stuffy leather trimmings! Samsung has a better collaboration in the wings. The Pokémon Edition of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is official, and it comes with a host of accessories that transform the folding phone into a bonafide Pokédex for the real world. Where was this collaboration when the Z Flip 3 launched last summer? It’s so cute, and perfect for Pokémon Go as it somehow continues to maintain relevance 6 years after launch. The bundle includes the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in a special box with a heaping of Pokémon -themed accessories. If the default Pikachu isn’t your starter, there’s a picture case with swappable cards. (Since we’re sharing, I’m more of a Squirtle Sun with a Bulbasaur Rising.) There’s also a clear cover set, a pouch that looks like a Pokédex with a lanyard strap, a Pikachu tail keychain, and a PokéBall stand. As for the Z Flip 3 itself, it comes preloaded with Pokémon ringtones, themes, and wallpapers. (I’m curious … [Read more...] about Samsung’s Pokémon-themed Galaxy Z Flip 3 is like a real life Pokédex
This Hand-Sculpted Pikachu Is the Wireless iPhone Charger of My Dreams
Wireless charging’s best feature is simply being a more convenient way to power up devices without having to struggle to find and plug in a cable, right? Nendo Yoshirin has shown us that far more creative and adorable. Even the most casual of Pokémon fans have at one time wondered if befriending (or entrapping, it’s a matter of perspective) a Pikachu would be the solution to all of their charging woes. Could you toss the Pokémon in your backpack with all of your devices and ten minutes later open it to find everything completely charged? It’s an experiment none of us will ever have a chance to try in real life—which is probably for the best—but this fan- hands-down the next best thing . There are seemingly more Pikachu toys and collectibles than there are stars in the night sky, and, not surprisingly, someone has already thought of turning the electric type pocket monster into a wireless charger before. Their approach, having users just plop a … [Read more...] about This Hand-Sculpted Pikachu Is the Wireless iPhone Charger of My Dreams

Here’s Everything Wrong (And Right) With My New-To-Me Porsche Boxster
Having recently sold my 1971 Datsun 240Z, I was left with holes in both my heart and my garage. Both voids have been satisfyingly filled by the recent acquisition of a triple-black 2001 Porsche Boxster. Let’s take a look at what my new-to-me 986 needs. Then you can decide if I’ve bitten off more Boxster than I can chew. Many of us have our “Pandemic Projects.” If you do happen to go out for non-essential shopping these days, you’ll likely notice empty shelves in the craft, home exercise and bicycle sections of a lot of stores. With more home-time than my life previously afforded I, too, have taken on a new project, though the care and feeding of a Porsche Boxster may demand a greater commitment than scrapbooking or treadmill time. Advertisement Now, I’ve never been an early adopter. I honestly have never had the finances to enjoy the latest and greatest of... well, anything. No, what I’m really all about is buying refurbished tech and taking advantage of … [Read more...] about Here’s Everything Wrong (And Right) With My New-To-Me Porsche Boxster
