Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has been appraised by many researchers, as an important contributor to the economic growth and development of nations (Borgean. C. 2015). However, there seems to be a required trend of performance for any economy to attain a sustainable flow of FDIs and maximise the expected benefits to the best of its national interest, especially when the welfare of its population is at its forefront. Some economies tend to attract more FDIs than others while some sectors of the economy tend to receive more FDIs. Ministry of Commerce data show national FDI remained stable from January to April, increasing 0.1 percent year-on-year to reach 286.7 billion yuan ($44.92 billion). The number of newly established foreign invested companies soared to 19,002, up 95.4 percent year-on-year. The medical equipment manufacturing sector increased fivefold year-on-year in the first four months. The West of the Romania is closer to the European Union and the highways that connect the country with the Western European markets. Unsurprisingly, foreign investments in the region are significantly higher than in the rest of the country. This is highly visible in the auto industry, in which major companies have opened production sites for components that get shipped to factories in other countries. HCM City (VNA) - Foreign direct investment (FDI) registered in HCM City has decreased by 65 percent year-on-year, according to the municipal Statistics Office. As of July 15, the country's major economic hub lured only 863.6 million USD , much lower than 2.5 billion USD in the same period last year. According to the office, real estate remained the most attractive sector to foreign investors, attracting 280 million USD or 43.7 percent of the city's total FDI. Trade ranked second with 185 million USD or 28.9 percent. In the period, the Cayman Islands were the city's leading source of FDI with 231 million USD . It was followed by Japan with 96.1 million USD ; Singapore (87.2 million USD ); the Republic of Korea (51.2 million USD ); British Virgin Islands (45 million USD ) and Taiwan (30.3 million USD ).
