Women say “please” to smart speakers more frequently than men, says research

Are women more polite to their smart speakers than men? A research done by Pew Research Center says that 62 percent of women in the US say "please" to their smart speakers at least sometimes, compared to 45 percent of men. If the numbers are not broken down as per the gender, the study found that 54 percent of smart speaker users said "please" at least occasionally with one out of five (19 percent) using the courtesy frequently. As per a report by The Verge, one reason behind women using please more frequently may be due to the assumption that men are usually ruder to women and since the AI assistants have got a female voice, their behaviour has rubbed off on this technological platform too. The report further goes on to say that since men are more comfortable with technology, they don't find it necessary to be polite to the AI assistant and use "please".
